Since its conception in 1934, the Masters, originally dubbed The Augusta National Invitational, has been synonymous with great names like Snead, Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods. Its founders were dedicated to accommodating players, press and patrons alike, and it was their beliefs that moulded the Masters from its origins to the present day tournament we know. Club members at Augusta have always been expected to be more than just spectators. The green jackets were first worn by the members beginning in 1937, as a way to make them more recognizable, in case patrons had questions or needed anything. Out of this tradition, the Green Masters Jacket was born and has since become one of the most recognized and coveted prizes in all of sports.
“The Masters just has a mystique about it. The mystique about Augusta National is Bob Jones and what he meant to golf. The class with which the event is held and with all the special things that you just won’t find in other places...it’s a cut above--way above.”
- Jack Nicklaus
